What is vCard?
vCard (also VCF, Virtual Contact File) is the international standard file format for electronic business cards (RFC 6350), used to store contact information including name, phone, email, address, organization, title, website, notes. The file extension is .vcf, recognized by major email clients (Gmail, Outlook), address books, and mail clients.
Encoding vCard content into a QR code lets you save contacts in one click by scanning—no manual field-by-field entry. It's the modern replacement for paper business cards.

How to make a vCard QR code
Enter contact info
In the tool above, enter name, phone, email, organization, title, website. At least one of name or phone is required; other fields optional.
Generate and preview
The QR code preview appears in real time. Optionally customize colors or upload a Logo (error correction auto-switches to H).
Download QR code
Click PNG (screen) or SVG (print vector). Print on paper business cards, brochures, or embed in email signatures.
Scan to save
Others scan with their phone's system camera; a "New Contact" form opens with all fields pre-filled—confirm to save to phonebook.
Pro tip: Use your phone's system camera to scan, not WeChat. The system camera triggers the "Save Contact" flow directly; WeChat only shows the vCard raw text.
vCard 2.1 / 3.0 / 4.0 differences
| Version | Year | Features | Compatibility |
|---|---|---|---|
| vCard 2.1 | 1996 | Earliest version, fewer fields | Best compatibility, limited features |
| vCard 3.0 | 1998 | Most universal standard, complete fields | iOS/Android widely supported (recommended) |
| vCard 4.0 | 2011 | Latest, supports social accounts | Some older devices incompatible |
QRCode.wang uses vCard 3.0 by default—the best balance of feature completeness and compatibility.
Troubleshooting
Missing fields or garbled text after scan
Causes: 1) special characters (semicolons, colons, quotes) not properly escaped—QRCode.wang auto-escapes; 2) QR code too small—export at least 320px; 3) phone OS field support differences—some older models don't support URL, TITLE fields.
Only text shows after scan, can't save contact
You're using WeChat or another third-party scanner. Use the phone system camera to scan; the system auto-detects vCard and opens the save-contact form.
Chinese names show as garbled text
QRCode.wang uses UTF-8 encoding, supported by mainstream phones. If older models show garbled text, try adding pinyin in the name field, or upgrade the phone OS.
